Please check whether you have selected the appropriate country flag of the game at the top of this page (not where you are at the moment). The game content varies from country to country. I.e. if you are playing the US version of the game in Canada, you need to choose the US flag. If you are playing the UK version in the Netherlans, you need to choose the UK flag.
INSTRUCTIONS
The aim of the game is to prove successful police work together as a team. You have to go through documents, draw clever conclusions and think outside the box.
THE FOLLOWING MISSIONS ARE WAITING FOR YOU:
Solve the case of the murder at Little Gomersal's traditional annual festival.
HOW DID MAX DIE?
WHO SENT YOU THE INVESTIGATION FILE?
WHO SENT THE TORN LETTER TO WHOM?
WHO IS THE CULPRIT?
BEFORE YOU START:
Carefully study all documents!
Take notes!
Make sure that everyone has read every document!
For deaf players you can find additional information here.
If you are not in the United Kingdom and do not want to spend money on telephone calls, you can also call the telephone numbers in the game free of charge via the Internet. Click here to do so:https://call.tele-comi.com
HINTS
In certain parts of the game, you can ask for an hint if you get stuck. We decided against giving you tips throughout the game as this would have made it too easy...
If you're stuck, you should have a look at some of the materials whose significance you have so far not quite understood and select one of the following search terms.
WATCH OUT - SPOILER ALARM: Only enter the search terms if you really can't continue the game without an hint - it's only half as much fun with tips.
STARTING THE GAME
Dear private detectives,
Have you read through all the information on the back carefully? Then you can start.
Good luck and have fun with your investigations!
P.S.
Do you need help to get started? Then have a look at the additional hints.
START
To start, we recommend that you distribute all the materials amongst the players. Each player should read the documents in silence and then share all the information with the other players (or read them again aloud).
THE POLICE REPORT
You should study the police report together, as it gives you the most comprehensive understanding of the case.
THE POSTER
For the best results, attach the poster to a wall and make notes on the various people involved.
NOW WHAT?
As you bring together the information from all the players, various villagers will come under suspicion. Make a note of their presumed motives. Do they have alibis? Can you eliminate any suspects? The more information you collect, the more people you will be able to eliminate – until you finally understand the full story and are able to identify the murderer
TIP
In the course of the game, you will find it very helpful to swap the documents amongst the players so that you can each read as many of them as possible. You should also lump together any documents that you consider to be related to one another.
VOICEMAIL NOT AVAILABLE
If the voicemail is not available, you can listen to the voicemail here:
POLICE REPORT
Ensure that you have all read the report together. It provides the basis for the case. Your task is to identify the murderer of Max Cobbler.
It would be sensible to enter the date and time in the calendar sheet in order to maintain an overview of the case.
CREDIT CARD STATEMENT
Look closely at the statement and cast an eagle eye over the poster again.
What do you notice?
The following information on the credit card statement is important:
1. Date
2. Who paid at the petrol station?
3. Location of the petrol station
What information do the three key points give you? What does this tell you?
CHESS TOURNAMENT
The information provided by Mary Pears is important. What do the times of the games tell you?
Can you use the nicknames to work out who was playing at the time of the crime?
Do you recognise the handwriting of the players?
Take a look at Max Cobbler’s allergy test results. Can you see handwriting there that is the same as the handwriting of one of the chess players?
ARREST WARRENT
When was the arrest warrant issued? And to what incident does it relate?
Who applied for the arrest warrant? What was his/her relationship with Thomas?
The request for the arrest warrant was rejected and Max was not arrested at the time. That could have upset the person who applied for it.
Does he/she therefore have a motive for killing Max?
NEWSPAPER
Read the newspaper carefully. It is not only the articles that could be important for your investigations.
Take another look at the following articles and read through the following hints for each article: DEATH NOTICE ROSALINE, MANAGEMENT CHANGE, NEW CLEANING SERVICES LAUNCHED
DEATH NOTICE ROSALINE
Rosaline Braithwaite has passed away. She leaves a husband. She also had a life insurance policy with Care4Life. Does this ring any bells?
MANAGEMENT CHANGE
Max Cobbler works for the insurance company Care4Life. Apparently, he was unexpectedly promoted. His colleague Ian Smith, who was in line for the job, did not like this one bit. Could that be a motive?
NEW CLEANING SERVICES LAUNCHED
Phillip Johnson is the new owner of the cleaning services. He claims that he runs a one-man show, meaning that he has no employees and apparently provides his services himself at various addresses all over Little Gomersal. Have you looked at his monthly schedule?
LOCAL MAP
The distance between Wakefield and Little Gomersal is a relevant piece of information.
Some of the places on the credit card statement for the day of the murder (such as the petrol station) are located in Gomersal. The local map is also important with regard to the penalty notice.
A car was caught on the speed camera on the road from Gomersal to Little Gomersal. Whoever was driving the car was going in that direction and was not fleeing from the scene of the crime.
WHATSAPP CHAT
Dated 14/02/19
- Are you able to assign one of the numbers to the relevant person?
- And what is that strange spelling error?
- What about the mention of Facebook? Have you looked into it?
Dated 11/04/2019
- Have you already figured out which people are concealed behind the two numbers?
- What did one of them find when spring cleaning? Here is a hint: It was inside an envelope in a drawer.
Dated 22/04/2019
- A slightly odd conversation. It looks like the number that ends in "38" was unavailable on the telephone. Maybe someone left him or her a voicemail message?
EMAIL EXCHANGE WITH THE DOCTOR
Apparently, the results of Max's allergy test disappeared without trace. This is strange. Fortunately, the results can still be retrieved digitally.
Have you been able to work out the password?
And what does the timing of the email exchange tell you?
You have probably seen where the allergy test results are. If not, take another look at the letter relating to the change in the access details for the police server (https://www.police-little-gomersal.com).
If you have not yet worked out the password for the protected medical document and need help with this, have a look at the “cat puzzle” hint.
POLICE SERVER LETTER
There appear to have been some changes to the police server login process. What do you think: would it be sensible to see whether you actually can log into the police server?
You will find Jason Mahown’s access details on the letter from the police in your documents.
The password is his collar number, which is B294353.
HUNTING PHOTO
A photo of two men out hunting together. It looks like they're really good friends, doesn’t it?
Can you find out who they are? Look closely at the photo and compare the faces with the pictures on the poster.
WASH AWAY MONTHLY SCHEDULE
Have you already found out who owns the cleaning services?
A good look at the newspaper could help you here.
Where did the cleaning services clean and on which days?
PENALTY NOTICE
Can you work out who owns the car that was caught by the speed camera?
The most important information on the penalty notice is the direction in which the car was going and the date and time.
What can you learn from this information?
The date and time at which the driver was caught on the speed camera is also important.
PLANNING OFFICE LETTER
Robert Miller seems to be the parish priest. His application for an extension to the church has been approved.
Have another look at the "PREVENT THE CHURCH EXTENSION!" flyer.
CAT RIDDLE
You will need your maths skills. Multiplication and addition will help you here.
So: seven children with seven backpacks each is how many backpacks?
There are seven cats in each backpack: how many cats are there in total?
Each cat has seven kittens. The number of cats multiplied by the seven kittens.
How many cats and kittens are there? Remember that each animal has four legs.
Have you remembered to count the children’s legs?
Seven children have seven backpacks each = 49 backpacks.
There are seven cats in each backpack: 49x7 = 343 cats.
Each cat has seven kittens: 343x7 = 2401.
343 cats + 2401 kittens = 2744 animals.
Each animal has four legs.
2744x4 = 10976 legs.
Seven children with two legs each = 14
10976 cat legs + 14 child legs give a total of 10990 legs and thus the 5-digit password for the allergy test.
Password for allergy test
You will receive the password for the allergy test once you have solved the cat puzzle (yellow note).
TORN LETTER
Have you pieced together the letter? Damn! We still can’t read the name of the sender.
The sender appears to be someone’s father, but it is still unclear who this might be.
The content of the letter is particularly important.
Why is the father unhappy about the recipient’s relationship?
And what does this have to do with the couple’s potential future children?
LETTER TO MY FATHER
The letter seems not to have been sent to its recipient. And it appears to be a reply to the torn letter. So the son or daughter is writing back to his/her father. Any idea who the writer might be?
The letter was obviously written on a computer with the spell check activated. Do you notice anything?
“Speechless” was spelt incorrectly.
LAW FIRM LETTER
To which letter does the letter from the law firm relate?
Does this provide a motive for the murder of Max Cobbler?
The law firm has ensured that Mr Braithwaite will receive a payout from his wife’s life insurance policy after all.
What does that mean for his motive?
TELECOMI LETTER
Have you already complied with the request on the police stamp?
Listen carefully and make notes. It is worth listening twice.
Alternatively, you can listen to the voicemail under the hint “voicemail not available”.
BUSINESS CARD PIZZA PLACE
Does the pizza place website work?
What happened on the evening of the crime and at what time?
Does one of the patrons catch your eye?
Where is the pizza place? What can you conclude from this?
www.wakefield-pasta.com
What happened on the evening of the crime, and at what time?
Do any of the guests catch your eye?
Where is the pizzeria located?
What can you conclude from this?
CARE4LIFE LETTER
The person who signed this letter should be familiar to you.
Richard Braithwaite has not received a payout from his wife’s life insurance policy. Does this give him a motive?
ULTRASOUND IMAGE
The ultrasound image with Sandra Bridges' name on it shows that she is pregnant. Have you already compared the fingerprints? And why was the image in the diary?
Have you worked out whose the fingerprints are?
This will tell you who knows about the pregnancy.
Who is, therefore, presumably the father of Sandra’s unborn child?
FACEBOOK
Have another close look at the WhatsApp chat.
Have you now worked out who the Facebook account belongs to? It might make sense to look for the person on Facebook.
If you do not have a Facebook account, look in the additional hints.
The Facebook account belongs to Carrie Butcher. But what is her middle name?
Tip: her middle name begins with an M.
If you are not a Facebook user, look at the next hint.
For those of you who do not have Facebook and are therefore unable to view Carrie M. Butcher’s account:
LETTER ENVELOPE
Where was the envelope found?
And have you been able to work out who has handled the envelope?
Unfortunately, Thomas Butcher died in the fire. Can you identify a suspect who may, even if only indirectly, have been responsible for Thomas’ death.
Does this provide a motive?
CHURCH FLYER
A flyer that was distributed in Little Gomersal. The flyer calls upon people to stop the extension of the church? What do you notice?
Who could have something against the anti-church movement? And could this possibly provide a motive?
PHOTO WITH LOVE LETTER
A letter that was found in the home of the victim. Max appears to have had a lover.
FINGERPRINTS
These fingerprints were taken in the course of the investigations. Can you find fingerprints on some of the documents and assign them to the relevant people?
There are also fingerprints on the letter envelope. Whose are they?
HOSPITAL DISCHARGE REPORT
Carrie Butcher appears to have had a car accident and spent some time in hospital.
She is wearing a cast and is temporarily in a wheelchair. Can you find her on the large poster?
The time at which she was in the hospital is important.
